Ford (English) rear axle

by Racing Aspirations on June 9, 2008

I decided to move away from the ‘standard’ BMC live axle as Ford parts are more widely available. The axle is currently being modified by Raw Engineering and will be back with me shortly. More pics to come…

26/02/2007 – Axle has arrived complete with disc brake conversion. I was pleasantly suprised at how light the axle casing is, this may turn out to be a much better prospect than the old BMC unit.

09 Jun 2008: I’ve fitted some Quaife half shafts as I just couldn’t find a straight set of second hand standard items. Expensive but nice!

Hi,
Would you be interested in selling a rear diffuser? I am building a Pulsar, and would perhaps like to incorporate one if possible, and thought, ‘why remake the wheel’

Hi Chris,

The gearbox and axle have added a good 25 kgs so I’ve had to and still have to save weight in other areas. Even though the engine is quite far forward compared to a clubmans it still has a healthy rearward bias.

I chose the Ford parts because of availability and durability. Now I’ve just got to work on making the car competitive using those parts, but isn’t that all part of the fun. I really don’t want to be stripping gearboxes every 3rd race and I don’t think Rachel would be too happy either 🙂

What effect did the ford axle/gearbox have on overall weight?
Much change in front/rear percentages, or indeed overall weight?
